After you have submitted the application form to the College and it has been received, the College will send:

  • A letter acknowledging that the College has received your application.
  • A receipt for the application fee.
  • A request to arrange a time to visit the College, if practical, for an interview.

Your Interview

College interviews are usually completed between August and November. If you live locally you should telephone the College to arrange a convenient time for an interview. In some situations, (eg interstate and overseas applications) the College recognises that an interview will not be possible. We will be in contact to organise other arrangements as needed. If you are able to attend an interview, please arrange to have your interview before the first Wednesday in December. The interview is designed for the Warden/Sub Warden to get to know you and to allow you to become more familiar with the College and its officers. You will be taken on a tour of the College so you can gain some idea of the facilities offered to students. Your parents are more than welcome to visit with you.

What is the purpose of the interview?

The purpose of the interview is purely for us to get to know you and for you to meet and get to know the Warden and Sub-Warden. It is to help prospective students understand how the College operates and whether it has the potential of being a home for them as they begin, or continue, their tertiary studies.

If I visit the College will I be able to see a student room?

If possible, we will arrange for a couple of rooms to be available for visitors to see. Rooms however are treated as the students' own private living and study area. If the College is full we are unable to enter students' private residences. Remember no two rooms are the same, there is a wide diversity within the College.

Who chooses my room?

The Senior Student allocates returning students to their rooms of choice first. Freshers are allocated the remaining rooms knowing that in years to come they choose where they want to stay.

Selection Criteria

  • Enrolment at The University of Western Australia or an equivalent university is essential. (UWA applicants will be placed first)
  • Proximity to UWA from students' usual place of residence.
  • Referee reports.
  • Interview.
  • Final school year results for Freshers or University results for returning students or students entering the college after their first semester at tertiary level.
  • Need.

Timing of the application process

The following sequence of events takes place for school leavers:

  • November
    Tertiary Entrance Examinations
  • December
College interviews completed (Usually between August and November)
  • January (early)
TEE results (Please telephone your results through to the College Office as soon as possible)
  • January (mid)

  • January (third/fourth week)
Offers of places within St George's College posted.

Different arrangements exist if you have already started university or if you are applying from interstate or overseas. Please contact our office if you fall into this category.

What happens if I am not offered a place?

If St George's College is unable to offer you a place, your application form and referee forms will go into a College's Waiting List Pool to be considered by any other College that has a vacancy.

Orientation

If you are entering the College for the first time and you are in your first academic year you must attend the College's orientation days. These commence the week before first semester begins. You will be sent information about the orientation programme if your application is successful.
