About the College Board

The Board of St George’s College Inc. (the Association) is responsible for the governance of the College and is accountable to the College Council (comprised of the members of the Association).

In terms of the Association’s Constitution the Board will comprise:

  • The Warden or Head of College
  • A member of the Board of St George’s College Foundation Inc. nominated by the Foundation and approved by the Board
  • A nominee of the Diocesan Council of the Anglican Diocese of Perth approved by the Board
  • A nominee of the Senate of The University approved by the Board
  • A nominee of the Georgians approved by the Board
  • The Senior Student of the College
  • Up to 3 others co-opted by the Board

The number of lay members of the Board who are not members of the Anglican Church shall not exceed 4. The Warden and Senior Student are ex-officio members of the Board.

Members of the Board other than ex-officio members are appointed for 3 years and are eligible for one further term of 3 years.

In 2009 the Board is composed of the following persons:

  • Mr Rory Argyle (Chairman) – A Georgian nominated by the Foundation
  • Mr John Inverarity MBE (Warden) – ex officio
  • Rev. Canon Richard Pengelley (College Chaplain) – nominated by the Perth Diocesan Council
  • Winthrop Professor Mark Cassidy (Director, Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems, The University of Western Australia) – nominated by the Senate of The University
  • Ms Michelle Godley (President of the Georgians) – nominated by the Georgians
  • Ms Lyn Thomson (Principal of St Mary’s Anglican School for Girls) – co-opted
  • Mr Michael Beech (Treasurer) – co-opted
  • Mr Brian Dixon (Chief Executive of the Perth Diocesan Council) – co-opted
  • Mr Mark Dodd (2009 Senior Student) – ex officio

The Board meets five times a year for approximately two hours each meeting. Its central role is to set the College’s strategic direction, to select and appoint the Warden and to oversee the management and activities of the College. The Senior Student may present the views of students in these deliberations.

The Board has delegated day to day management powers to the Warden. The reserved powers and responsibilities of the Board, the responsibilities of individual Board members and the responsibilities of the Chairman are formally declared in a Board Charter.
