An Insurance Assessor was on site for about three hours on Tuesday 23 March making a first assessment of the damage.
Residents need to be aware of the following.
The Insurance Assessor was asked about whether or not the personal property of residents would be covered by the College’s extensive insurance cover. His response was positive but not definite and he needs to look into the matter. The Insurance Assessor recommended the following:
• Residents clearly list those items (and their replacement cost) that are damaged such that they cannot be used again. Clearly name this list and the Room where this damage occurred and submit to Caroline/Jan at the Front Office by 5.30pm on Friday 26 March.
• Many residents will have cover from their (or their parents’) home insurance policies. These domestic policies possibly would need to have Marine Insurance Cover.
• Residents are to try their own domestic insurance policies before trying for a claim through the College’s policy. However, the list of damaged items still needs to be lodged with the College as indicated above as back-up.
To state the obvious, all claims need to be genuine and made with absolute integrity.
