The College could not function without the services of our chefs, catering, housekeeping, maintenance and gardening staff, all of whom make an important contribution to your quality of life here. Students are expected to be courteous and generally co-operative with those who are working to make their stay as pleasant as possible. Some staff live within the College grounds with their families which may include young children. As part of living in a community you need to be mindful of the needs and privacy of these families. The Warden The Warden is the Chief Executive Officer of the College and its academic head. The Warden is responsible for the administration and discipline of the College, the appointment and dismissal, salary and conditions of all other staff. The Warden regulates the duties of members of staff, the selection of new students, and in general, all areas of College life where public accountability is required. The Warden is available to any member of the College on any matter, and meets regularly with the Senior Student and the student committee. Sub Wardens The Sub-Wardens are responsible to the Warden for the good order of the College. The role of the Sub-Warden includes fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence and building a sense of community spirit at the College. If the Warden is away from the College the Sub-Warden acts in the Warden's stead. The Business Manager The Business Manager is responsible for all financial and administrative matters within the College. The Business Manager organises budgets, staff salaries, invoicing of fees and the payment of services the College uses. The Business Manager also keeps a watchful eye over the College Club funds. The Business Manager is also responsible for maintenance in and around the College as well as some capital works. The Community Manager The Community Manager is responsible for the pastoral care, the academic monitoring and the overall supervision and welfare of the students and for the management of the Tutors. The Community Manager is also responsible for the College's alumni, is Executive Officer of the St George's College Foundation and has a range of other general responsibilities. The Hospitality Manager The Hospitality Manager is responsible for all kitchen and catering staff and maintaining an excellent dining and meal service. The Hospitality Manager is also responsible for housekeeping duties around the College. Residential Tutors The Residential Tutors act in a number of capacities. They run general tutorials for first year students and meet with students on an individual basis to check their progress both academically and as new members of the College. Problems arising from course changes, communal living and personal problems are noted and students are assisted where necessary. Tutors also consult with the Warden and the Sub-Wardens in an ongoing way to ensure the best possible outcome for students. A resident tutor is on duty after Office hours and can be contacted by dialling 20 on our telephone system. Tutor Assistants are senior students who take on some of the tutor duties within the College throughout the year. They run general tutor groups and work in conjunction with the Tutors, Student Executive and Management to make sure that all lines of communication remain open between residents and staff. A Tutor Assistant will do all they can to help Freshers settle into College life. The Administration Officer The Administration Officer is responsible for running the College Office and will be able to answer most queries about the College from students, parents and the general public. The Conference Manager The Conference Manager organises and co-ordinates the many and varied groups who make use of the College facilities when students are not in residence. These conferences can account for up to twenty five percent of the College's total budget, which allows us to continue to upgrade College facilities. The Senior Student The Senior Student, although not officially a member of staff, heads up the College Club Committee. The Senior Student liaises between students, Tutors and the management of the College to help in the smooth operation of the many events that run over the year and to present students' needs where necessary. He/She has a seat on the College Board and is able to put forward the needs of College residents and give input into the running of the College from a student's point of view. The Senior Student is the first port of call for all students with questions, problems or concerns regarding College life. Chaplain Chaplain: St George's College is an Anglican residential college with a beautiful Chapel as one of its features. There has always been an Anglican priest on staff and the Chaplain provides regular times of prayer and worship as well as pastoral care to the students and staff. |
