St. George's College Your Room

Each student within the College is provided with furnished, single room accommodation, which is cleaned once a week by our housekeeping staff. Some rooms have ensuite facilities and some are air-conditioned. We are continually upgrading the facilities at the College as our budget allows. Our returning students have first choice of rooms each year.

All rooms have heating, an Internet port, telephone, bed, desk with a small bookshelf, chest of draws and a wardrobe with hanging space. All you need to bring is your bedding and personal belongings to help you be as comfortable as possible. No personal heaters, electric blankets or cooking facilities are allowed in students' rooms.

When you move into your room you are invited to make it as comfortable as possible by bringing personal possessions like a floor mat, quilt covers, pictures, plants and the like. But whatever you do, you are asked to treat the fabric of your room with great care.

Maintenance of Rooms (By-Law 5.1.5)

To preserve paint work, pictures, posters, timetables must not be attached directly to walls with nails, adhesive tape, blue tack or any other device that will mark or damage the walls. They should be hung from picture rails only or placed on the pinup boards provided. Equipment to hang posters from picture rails is available at the office. If this process is not observed the College reserves the right to remove posters from walls and charge students for the repair and or repainting of damaged walls.

Cleanliness of Rooms (By-Law 5.1.3)

Your room will be cleaned on the same day every week. It is your responsibility to keep it neat. The housekeeping staff are not employed to tidy up for you. If your room is not in a fit state to clean, it will remain so until the student makes cleaning possible. If it is consistently untidy, the College reserves the right to charge you a tidying fee if it appears the room will be damaged due to neglect, or in our opinion becomes a health hazard.

On the subject of responsibility, students are reminded that they are financially liable for damage resulting from their negligence or wilful behaviour. (By-Law 5.1.9)

Please take pride in your room, for you will be spending much time in it during the next twelve months.

Who chooses my room?

The Senior Student allocates returning students to their rooms of choice first. Freshers are allocated the remaining rooms knowing that in years to come they choose where they want to stay.

What do I need to bring to College?

You need to bring all that is required for your courses at the University. Obviously you will provide all your clothing plus bedding, including your own pillow and blankets. Bring your own toiletries, including towels. Most students now bring their own computer and printer too. No cooking facilities are allowed in students' rooms.
