St. George's College Student Facilities

As a member of the College community you have access to facilities which include common rooms, tennis/half basket ball court, BBQ area, library, dining hall, TV room, college canteen, laundry, computer room and chapel.

The Junior Common Room (JCR) is the undergraduates' recreation room and was the home of the College Club. Current students use the space to relax or to sit and read the newspapers or to meet other students socially. The Common Room is the location of the many social functions held throughout the year and its walls are covered with the names of former greats and some of their trophies. Students also have access to the College Club Rooms and enjoy playing billiards or pool and table tennis here.

The Library does not seek to compete with the University Libraries as an academic resource. It remains, however, a source of most interesting texts, and primarily, a place of quiet where you can work on essays or study, as a convenient alternative to your own room or University Library.

The College Chapel dominates the whole architectural concept of the quadrangle. The visual dominance of this building, its atmosphere of quiet and peace, and the presence of examples of religious art and craft make one ponder its significance to those who created it and worshipped within its beauty. It is a profoundly picturesque building that draws members of the College to it to think, meditate, pray and reflect. 'Nosse Deum Vivere'.

Music Practice for residents who major in music can be conducted in the Georgian Room. A piano donated by a former student is housed there for students' use. The Chapel has a rare Baby Grand Piano and a wonderful Pipe Organ available for use with permission. The acoustics in the Chapel are wonderful for those with the gift of creating music.

The Laundry has coin operated washing machines and dryers. Soap can be bought from the office. Irons and an external drying area are also available for students.

The Computer Room is available for residents' use only. Apart from specific computing assignments, residents use the facility for assignment and essay preparation. Students have password access to the Internet through the University. Photocopying can be done 24 hours a day using the coin operated photocopier situated in the computer room.

Telephones are situated in all students' rooms. Outside calls can be made using phonecards, which can be purchased from the office. In addition, public telephones for local, interstate and overseas calls are available. Internet access can be gained from each student's room. Students log on to the Net via The University of Western Australia.
