REYNOLDS SCHOLARSHIP Each year St George's College invites applications from first year students for the Reynolds Scholarship. The Scholarship is provided by the Georgians (the former student association) in memory of Dr J H Reynolds, a former Warden of the College. Former recipients have had high academic ability as indicated by TEE results as well as other The value of the Scholarship is equivalent to one-third fee remission for three years. THE PHILLIP ROBERTS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Richard Phillip Roberts, Senior Tutor of St George's College for 18 years died suddenly in 1961. He was at various times Research Lecturer in Agricultural Economics at UWA, Officerin- Charge of the Western Australian Department of Agriculture, Secretary of the State Committee of CSIRO, and Secretary of the Food and Agricultural Organisation of UNO. An appeal was set up by colleagues and friends to raise funds to establish a memorial to him. £1,500 was raised and this sum formed the initial basis of an endowment which establishes a scholarship in his memory. The Scholarship is awarded to the best first year Western Australian student with a country background entering College. It is judged largely on the results of the TEE. The value of the Scholarship is up to one third of the College's annual fee but depends upon the return from the endowment and is tenable for one year only. THE WINTHROP SCHOLARSHIP The Winthrop Scholarship was established by the Council of St George's College to perpetuate the name of the Founder of the College, Sir John Winthrop Hackett KCMG LLD. The Scholarship is awarded each year to the best Western Australian applicant coming into residence and entering the University for the first time. It is judged on the basis of character, school record, and Tertiary Entrance Examination results. The Value of the Scholarship is equivalent to $1,500.00 for one year only. ENTRANCE BURSARIES The Georgians and the College Council have established a number of entrance bursaries. They are offered to all Year 12 students and students beginning their first year of university. They are created to assist students who are keen to do well in a tertiary course. The bursaries aim to encourage students to become part of a community and within that community contribute to its social and sporting life. Awards are made on the grounds of merit and need. They are available for one year only. The Council Entrance Bursaries are valued at $1000.00 and the Georgian Bursary is valued at $2000.00. |
